We had spent many hours reading controversial articles about whether is better and cheaper to travel by a car and rent rooms in motels/hotels/airbnbs etc. or rent an RV. What affects the cost of both options when it comes to a cross-country road trip is the fact that you take off from one place and deliver the vehicle to another. That comes with a significant fee. We decided to go with the flexibility that an RV offers: changing schedule, overnighting any place, sleeping in your own bed and preparing your own meals…

Planning the route

Roadtrippers App proved a very useful tool that helped us lay out our route and set our stops based on time and distance. The service uses Google-Maps based directions and we saved quite a few different options of the route until we finalized it…

Navigation

We were using Google-Maps directions throughout our road trip very pleased with the info it provides for traffic, accidents etc. However, the estimation for the travel duration was never met during our road-trip; we always exceeded it by far…

Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores

While we were planning our trip and researching parking options, we realized there weren’t RV campgrounds near all the places we wanted to stop. Walgreen stores were suggested in some forums as a good alternative but again this was not mentioned as the safest option and overnight parking at their surroundings is not allowed in all states. We then discovered Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores. They are fueling and overnight parking stations with additional amenities attached such as restaurant chains, convenience store, restrooms, showers, RV dump stations etc…

This is a fuel-finding app. The price variance between nearby gas stations is significant and this app helped us navigate to the cheapest one along our way…
