route #6: Santa Fe to Fort Worth, Texas
Santa Fe to Fort Worth is a 600 miles drive but it seems much further. Driving through the deserts, mesas and mountains of Southwest was wearing; the landscape repeated itself endlessly. The land is said to be so sparsely populated that it has been used for missile tests. Eventually we saw none of those but the route was not without unusual sights: ghost towns, dune formations and contemporary art installations in the middle…

The Love’s Travel Stop outside Fort Worth featured cheap gas prices, clean restrooms and showers but mostly helpful employees. We parked overnight opposite the Stop’s drive-thru restaurant and talked to the security guy doing his night shift…
